1992. Do you know where your friends are?
dudes! |
Remeber FUBU? Backwards facing pants? Two people or more could not get together without this party CD making it's way to some loud ass speakers. Oooooooohhh on the TLC tip. Its' sound and energy changing any room or gathering, instantly. It's just the way it seemed back in 1992. TLC, It's birthplace was in Atlanta, in a studio somewhere with the help of mega producers LA Reid, "BabyFace", Dallas Austin, Marley Marl, Jermaine Dupree, and borrowing a little from the Teddy Riley sound. Aided by these three personalities that could not be contained, this trio called TLC, It just growing and kept spreading across the country until all were under its spell and eventually becoming the monster it was destined to be. Catchy as all hell. These three girls, dressed in dayglow neon and bold prints to match their bold characters, claiming their womanhood and their refusal to be too proud or too shy to beg. It was on. It was different from anything else going on anywhere else. Where salt n' Peppa evolved to independent women, with sophisticated demands, these three showed up fully formed and ready to demonstrate to all, This is how we do it. Sexy?, check. Sexual? check. Safe sex? triple check. 1992 had arrived and they were gonna have a party, everyone's invited.
TLC eventually went on to become one of the most successful acts of the 1990's, but not without its VH1 behind the music worth of troubles. The group ceased when member Lisa "left eye" Lopes died in Honduras back in 1992. They have made several appearances since then, but as with all groups with deceased members: it's just not the same. Let's not focus on that though. Let's remember the happy start. So many parties, got muggy and steamy and went well into the night while loosing it to this soundtrack. Ready to time travel? check out the following videos and remember and how much fun you can have if you want to.

Sunday, works

In case I haven't told you, today was the final day to finish painting the bedroom. It did not have any weird colors. It's all white. Boring, I know. I love doing this kind of work on the weekends it's so calming to a whirlwind mindset like mine.
Did I also tell you how much I love guys in designer jeans? I'm sure I did, 'cause I'm telling everybody. I think that's another line (besides the shoes) me and jojo should look into the men designer clothes. We could make a killing.
Hope you all had a great weekend. I'm pooped.
It's a fun track that soars

Saturday what a day.
I'm so glad men are wearing girl jeans again. I was so longing for the days of Jordache, and Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. If any body knows how to rock a pair of designer jeans, it's men. Let's hear it for the boys!!!
Today We had a Bar B-Q. It was so cool. We had family visiting from out of town, and the weather could not have been nicer. Awww loved it. Steak, Salmon chips and all the drinks you could hold. WEEE!!!

Movie FRIDAY: Invincible Gladiator
This man can cook anything and make it sound so fucking delicious. Make yourself a snack before you sit down for a movie. OKAY OKAY you win Michael Symon. I'll eat your cheese burger. That voice can sell anything, including his "double fisted hamburger". You can usually tell when some one loves food. This man loves his food.
I really like movies when they're free. If you're short on funds or are tired of remakes of television shows or tired of remakes of bad movies about dancing teens who dance in art school during lunch, or can't have dances in cornfields, 'cause it's, you know, illegal and stuff, we got MOVIE FRIDAY. We now can watch a free movie together, sorta. You got all weekend to spend it with us, a cheap set, if you'd like, that is. You don't have to buy anything, sell anything, or wear anything. You can keep it a sober affair if that's your deal, or you really need to clean up your act and detox, or not spend any money, whatever. Or you can invite a bunch of people over and everyone can drink every time someone says a particular word in the movie until someone throws up (and someone always does- that was me last time everyone got together here, folks). And we can all sit around my vacant parking space (don't ask) and discuss how cheesy and cool special effects used to be while drinking some beer, or sobering you up, or nursing your hangover or we could drink sodas (umm I can really love some sodas right about now) we can pick apart the characters realness. Or how somebody heard from somebody who personally knew them which actor picked up some hours as a pecker checker at the local public restrooms on the weekends, cool, right? - Or... Fine... you all can just post on here if you liked or hated it.
Keep in mind the movies are of older stock or educational, so no sullen teen vampire series, or Bey-once (sorry jojoeaux). I hope you dudes like action films and classics with armed men in tunics/togas that are ready for anything (and...well...who doesn't, really?). FELLAS! you can now enjoy art with no clothes on for free, on Fridays without anyone complaining or hurrying you up, cause you can watch this whenever you have time (...psst..it doesn't even have to be on Friday, how will we know?, just don't fall behind to much because every Friday we'll have a new one), there is no hurry or schedule (pronounced shedule). YOU READY? -GET THERE.

Thursday night, feeling a little mellow...
dude
I've finished watching THE KID staring Charlie Chaplin. What did you all think? Did you like it? I've got to say it's a really funny movie. It's laugh out loud funny at certain points. It managed to get surreal, even, during DREAMLAND. I'm so glad we saw it. Now I can say I've added another classic to my viewing library, and a good one for sure. Are you ready for another one? They're free, this coming Friday let's meet there.
There's a lot of things going on around here, hope all is good with you guys. Hope you're liking the changes and stuff, because I cannot emphasize enough how fun and exciting this is for me.
Special shout out to Boston tonight, we've got family out here from that part of town so let's hear it for BOSTON!!! You know who you are.
EELS. I like the way this is going

WHAT'S UP- it's Wedndesday. How are we doing?
I've had so much to do today, who knew.
I hope I didn't upset too many people with yesterdays post, as it was meant for me mainly. I write to get out of my head. It's an exercise. If you have something going round and round, or you are the kind of person that overthinks things, it's helpful to write these ideas down. I'm just gifted when it comes to whirling ideas that may or may not make sense. I put up with 'em all day, might as well put them down, I thought this is a good way to share 'em and show people that it works itself out. Hope you're having fun. Because I just can't believe how much fun I'm having. Keep it real. Real messy.
Don't forget we're getting ready to start working out. I figure some sit-ups, and push-up alternating every other day.

Happy Valentines Day!!!. To all THE SINGLE LADIEZ. why...yes, it is a week later.
Well Valentines day is gone. It came and went and I did not address it, as I didn't think I was someone to bring up that subject. Belonging to a singles website as I do (you know who you are, fellow members), and having the oddest of long term relationships I've sort of been involved in If you can call them that, Valentines Day has never genuinely resonated with me. I didn't feel like bringing it up, not because I don't have any ideas on it (are you kidding me). It was so raw. I had to wait it out. I consider us to be pretty close now, you know for the internet and all. I hope you're over it now and we can talk about it without you leaving the room or rolling your eyes, and still be cool, are we...still cool?
Valentines Day can be so hard on some people that I wanted to give some people a chance to recover and get some distance between them and the day of judgement from social norms. I consider us to be on good terms, and as such I hope you don't mind, and I'm not overstepping but...Now I've got a few words to say : YOU DIDN'T DIE. Now you thought you would, some of you hoped you would, but life doesn't work like that. Just because you wished you were dead (in theory I hope), or you wished the ground would swallow you whole, means that it happens. Those of you that are still alive: Congratulations!!!. You didn't die. Your still single. Now act like it, buddy. Save up enough to travel, alone, if no one else can go. Don't wait for somebody if you've always wanted to go to The Grand Canyon ( you really should see this thing). I'm sorry did I meddle? I'd give you a hug but some of you need a shaking, don't be mad...Now quit feeling sorry for yourself and get something done that will make you feel good about yourself. Be altruistic, do something for that one person who needs it. That old grumpy person down the street that needs help cleaning her yard and can't. Be selfish, buy yourself that expensive box o' chocolate you've been waiting someone to buy you. Or finally get to that project that's been needing attention for a while, It will make you feel good, then another, and another, and so on. Till you no longer have time to feel sad.Wear something flattering while you do these things, though, you just never know who's paying attention.
After years of going back and forth between acknowledging and denying it it's existence (sometimes in tears, beer in hand not helping at all. lol), I don't pay it much attention nowadays, like Groundhogs day. What do I know or care? Stupid groundhog. Just kidding, I love that fat gopher of love. Everyone know I love animals. I'd love one. I wish I could walk one around my block like any other dog on it walk, just scaring the juice out of my neighborhood runway joggers. I could hear it now: "Oh my, your dog is fat"
And no, it doesn't bother me to see people celebrating their love, I'd recommend it, encourage it, in fact, after years of seeing couples doing the opposite. As a single male, it just doesn't apply, like feminine freshness commercials, I don't know what that is. V-day, It seemed like it has evolved into shaming people out of single status. It shouldn't be though. And after years of pursuing just that, love, and finding it to be one of the hardest two persons tasks ever (and all the while not willing to settle), I just came to realize it's the sort of thing that is either there for you or not. That particular brand of love, because there is so many kinds: fraternal, maternal, friendship. You either have it or you don't. It's not debatable. You are single or not. It's not good or bad. Both have pluses and minuses. Which ever you are, embrace it! Celebrate it. Announce it if you're single, don't be embarrassed, how else are we supposed to know if we can chase that? Claim it. Which are you?
But making a big deal about it on this particular day is so manufactured, it pains, what if you're in a relationship, and really feeling it ( you know what I mean, right?-and yes it's durtty) but in August, you should wait a couple of months to celebrate your love? It doesn't exist only on Valentines day. And some "love" is not good, some love, it's not love at all, and sometimes it's downright terrifying even. But you either have it or don't. Historically, not every one does. And that's just the way it goes. Don't stop looking, if you like that, I do. I believe that it's just it just within reach at every turn. If it's supposed to happen, it will happen, and I will help it along by being friendly and announcing myself in a room. If it doesn't, well, that doesn't define you, or me. There is so much you are, already, to so many people you affect you don't even know, you can't possibly begin to know. Concentrate on what you are and what you hope to be, and not on what you aren't (the other half). Your role in life can be so big, and you may be forever single (and a whole, not just a half), with that one friend, everyone always wondered about, always at your side. Or a whole community or neighborhood forever grateful for your impact. Or the coolest uncle ever with ever grateful nieces and nephews. The coolest brother, sister, even Father or mother and be single. You can be the roaming searcher of love with a habit of wearing women's felt hats (you might) helping people all around the world and always looking for love and getting some, while saving lives, who knows? I don't. Unless you're psychic, neither should you. That could be you, forever. I know it sounds weird, but someone has to fill that role. Someone has to buy all the ugly women's felt hats being made around the world. In the mean time: Keep your heart open and buy yourself something nice if you really feel the need to have that void filled. I still buy myself giant heart shaped chocolates because I like them and that's when they're available (lately I wait 'till after V-day, 'cause they are on sale). I do things while I can. So eat up while you can. Maybe someday someone will tell you can't eat that, 'cause it's bad for you, and serve you something healthier made with love.

A little about me. DANCER- of sorts
Have I mentioned to you that I'd love to start a dance troupe, one of these days? I figure that I could get a couple of folks together, coordinate some outfits (that I designed myself, something eye-catching, maybe sequins, maybe urban, sorta hardened glam) and put on a display that really shows the boys what I got?
-Not turning around to look at jojo, I replied: "yes...yes, you have Joe", without missing a beat and with matter of fact honesty. I continued eating my oatmeal (damn! that's one delishus grain).
That is how some mornings begin here at Chez New project Every Other day OR House of ADD.
"I do know I am sure as heck going to be the one wearing sequins if I'm gonna be in some "hardened glam" dance troupe. Ha! that goes without saying."- That is what I thought, I didn't say it. I figure if he ever, by some stroke of luck, gets a dance troupe together, I wanna be in the front and center, showing it all. Until then, I'm not going to encourage any more craziness in this house, you know what I mean, yes? I turned and looked a him with a smile, and he eyed me with I believe a glare, as if he knew what I was thinking.
I just thought "You better bring it" as I shimmied away to the sink throwing in some fancy finger pointing and snapping fingers to emphasize my point.

MUSIC-hear ya go, buddy
I DON'T WANNA HEAR IT. sounds familiar, yes? Perhaps in a good way, but this will make sure you'll buy boots if anything just to make a louder racket as you boogie to this
CAROLINA. -All swaying fun and bravado, not a bad thing.
DON'T GET OLD. - Or...do it kicking and screaming to this tune J Roddy Walston and the business
are part of the bands that I think are good and gosh swell. These are bands that don't have nearly enough exposure and people may not know of. I'd like to offer this space as a kind of small platform for these bands I'd never heard on radio. These bands that just make me think "oh yeaaa". These band that some of my personal music savvy friends, friends that I've broken bread with at my favorite bread-less watering holes have not heard, and look at me with that look when I suggest they listen. You know that look. Now, now, some of these bands have been out for a while and there are many music aficionados or fans that do know who these bands are, and they are out there feeling offended, or insulted. No worries, relax. I mean you no harm. This is not that kind of place. This is all good (I'm gesturing toward computer screen, for those of you wanting to know). We're cool here. Alright? Are we good? GOOD.Those of you that do know them, just might want to make a mixed tape for someone you care about or may want to care about... deeply, with your hands and just generally all around feel good intentions (you know what I mean. I don't have to paint a picture, right?... I mean I will, just say the word. I'll do it, I will). Also please don't forget the people in your lives whose musical taste is suffering...quietly, or worse, out loud and within earshot. There are wonderful people out there that truly need new music in their lives. Those poor people have it bad. I just get emotional thinking about it.So please, do it! make this happen. Start putting better music into circulation in the world. I along with the assistance of a couple of reliable sources*, especially if you know better.Tsk Tsk
I'd love to hear them on the radio any day, instead of the indistinguishable things that I happen upon on the airwaves. Recently, I turned on what used to be the coolest radio station out in Los Angeles for decades, I do it as torture and a reminder I guess, only to have them play stuff from the nineties. You know who you are PAYROCK, with your nonsensical playlist forever set on 'repeat'. Get on with it. Now I love the nineties to death, but come on. There is so many good new bands that have gotten no airplay while you still play that awful stuff you insist people better love or else. ARG! You suck so much!!!!
Well I'd like to do something about it. I'd like to present you all with these little tokens of my affection. And supply you with some tools to put better music into circulation and in your players. A gift if you will. From me to you ...here. Take it. Go on don't be shy, take it. Take it, take it, I said!...your welcome.
Now can you pass me my pants? you're sitting on them.

When commercials attack: SOME REALLY GOOD EATS
It's interesting to think that some people's job consists of creative ways to distract a viewer from a television program so as to make them buy a product or think about them long after you've seen them. On here we can explore some trends I've noticed or fancied or wondered about . Some commercials follow you long after you saw them for different reasons, the music, the good looking actors, nudity, and sometimes you think "I just know somebody got fired for that awful one or at the very least got a verbal warning if not a written one". So: Job well done advertisers, you got me to stop and notice.
Today we find that SNICKERS tastes so good guys can't resist it: That is one helluva candy bar, gotta get me some. The best smelling breath mint you can't afford to not buy will get you out of traffic tickets even as it gets you into something else, something altogether more intimate, but quicker than traffic school. The BURGER KING has the kind of breakfast sandwich that he insists you sit up and take notice of, first thing in the morning sunshine and some sandwiches that straight up just bring men back to life and closer than ever.
Now were are my pants? I've got to run to the corner market, need anything??

Movie FRIDAY
Who has the time to read books anymore, that's why they made MOVIEZ, right? -Is that how you spell movie when it's more than one?-maybe I should make the time for reading more...(Thanks for all your hard work you put in everyday teachers, Shout out to Ms. Plasse and Ms. Harvey From Middleton St School! LOOK, I'm writing...sorta...kinda).
YOU READY? -GET THERE.
word(s) that made me giggle as I typed it: pecker checker, dances in cornfields

I can see you |
You'll be happy to know that I had the time that I wish everyone would have when they go on a vacation.Everything that could happen, happened. I learned things, I almost touched the past it felt so real, I met friends long lost. I laughed I cried I got shot at, or a shot, rather. I got sick from eating everything I saw (it all smelled like I would die a little if I didn't chew it up). I got so sick I had to have a shot, then I was better than before, and promptly did what? Ate!-I was starved. It was an awesome trip. I was befriended by a super friendly fresh water dolphin that came to my aide. Listen, listen, I know,I know it sounds strange but pink fresh water dolphins really do exist. I'm just not so sure I befriended one, what with me being sick and all. It was awesome though (I miss you so, Mr. Pinx-sigh).
When I left I mentioned that I thought it would be interesting to see what changes and how exactly it would affect this minimonster that I call man was i drunk. And I came back thinking: boy, I'll say yes! to ideas and some changes.
In the meantime here's some music from last few years that may not have gotten as much attention as I imagine they deserved. How we listen to music is changing quickly. It's not always afforded the platforms it used to have, indie radio is all but gone. Popular radio seems to sound the same it did three years ago, it's strange. No one medium rules and therefore not one form or brand of rebellion or alternative exists, and some good songs are not getting heard. And people like myself are left wondering what the EFF are people listening to? And how can I get some. where did our love go?

I got back to find my roommate jojo binging on ice cream an cake like a 10 year old. It was so cute and I didn't realize i had missed him and until this moment,. I walked into the apt to find it looked like he hadn't been expecting me so soon, and he hadn't picked up, anything it seemed, at all, since I walked out the door two weeks earlier. I didn't miss him quite so much, anymore.
We sat around and shared the ice cream, and he told me about creating a clothing line, and we discussed the probability of that happening... but what if ?

I'm home, I hope
getting ready for a big nite out |
I just got back from my South American tour where I sang songs of hope and inspiration for the youth that needs direction in this complicated world while at the same time showcasing my new line of shoes: PUMPD-UP; the stiletto for the modern macho man who happens to have fallen arches or chubby feet. I toured heavily and showed the world what I'm made of. All from a bar stool in a hotel lobby, from which I was too drunk with intent to walk away from. I haven't heard any reviews yet...I think I was an international success. I got arrested once.
