I’m not usually the type to be RAH RAH SUPPORT THE TROOPS, but I do appreciate a good iced latte every now and then and am all about giving in ways that give support directly to whoever you may choose.
Enter Green Beans. This coffee chain is often the last of any sort of comfort you get as bases get smaller. At the big guys like Bagram Air Field or Kandahar you’ll have Pizza Hut (although apparently the Pizza Hut at Kandahar was destroyed by incoming a few weeks ago), Subway, Popeyes, etc… As you trickle on down, the last to go is usually Green Beans, often one of the only luxuries available out in the middle of this hell hole.
They’ve got this thing called the Cup Of Joe program where you can donate as little as 2 dollars so a service member can enjoy a cup of coffee on you. It takes about three minutes to sign up and you can write a personal message to whoever may pick up your voucher. Service members also have the option of writing back for a thank you and often do.
MAYBE YOU’LL MEET YOUR FUTURE HUSBAND/WIFE, and wouldn’t that be a good story for the grand kids?
